Regarding advising your students for the weather in Rochester : I
would advise a flexible approach of layered clothing so that students
can be assured to be ready for the changeable weather in Rochester. So
far, we are having an Indian summer with temperatures
in the high 70s and low 80s. Over the next two weeks, that should
shift to high 60s - low 70s, although in the evening and early morning,
students should prepare to wear layers + a light jacket and scarf as it
can be cold. We have never gotten snow as early
as mid-October (although we did on Halloween one year). Generally, if
the weather is bad, the families will provide your students with some
supplemental clothing (coats, hats, scarves, gloves) as needed.
One essential item - comfortable walking shoes. Although your
students will find that Americans walk less and drive more, the reality
is that a comfortable pair of walking shoes will make the exchange a
much more pleasant experience. We will be hiking
one day in Letchworth park, so sneakers are a good idea.
Sincerely,
